Book Review: God Bless Our Fall by Hannah Hall

God Bless Our Fall by Hannah C. Hall; illustrated by Steve Whitlow

This book is perfect reading for getting into the fall season with a toddler or preschooler. Turning the pages of this book makes me feel all warm and cozy and ready to jump into fall activities.

This book describes and illustrates the things we love about fall: the beautiful trees, the cool air, camp fires with s’mores, picking pumpkins, going on a hayride, eating tasty treats like pumpkin pie, going to a fall festival, cooking, and jumping in leaves. The author and illustrator have done a nice job with the subject of Halloween. The book refers to “carving a silly face” in a pumpkin but does not show any jack-o-lantern pictures. This allows families who don’t celebrate Halloween to still enjoy this beautiful book without getting too deeply into conversations about the holiday.

I have high standards for the illustrations in children’s books and I was pleased to find these illustrations to be of very nice quality, accurately capturing and communicating the colors, coziness, and memories associated with the fall season. The book is a solid board book with a padded cover and is very attractive in presentation. It is something I would certainly enjoy purchasing to give as a gift.

I think I need to get a copy! For probably the very first time in my life, I am sorry to see the end of summer.
